Time: 66:03
Distance: ~8.5 miles
Weight: 141.4
Billy Shue is dogsitting over by our house so we had to meet up one morning for a run. He had done a track workout the night before and wasn't looking to run that fast. It was perfect considering I'm out of shape and Meagan is nursing a sore IT band. We took him on the 8 mile loop that we run frequently and chatted mostly about running and how the Panthers might be better off if there is a lockout.
I'm glad to report for the third or fourth post in a row that my achilles didn't bother me. Not one bit. I'm not glad to report that we ran over 66 minutes. Maybe I didn't stop it at some point in the run when we paused at an intersection or something. It's been so long since I've needed to use my watch that I have forgotten where some of the buttons are. Gotta fix that with some more running.

Thunder Road Course Preview
Time: 92:11
Distance: ~13
Last night while supporting Matt in his latest endeavor, Jay Holder told me that a big group was departing from the Dowd YMCA at 7:00 am. I was torn because I also wanted to run with Caitlin's group from McAlpine at 9:00. Why not do both?
I met up with Jay, Paul, Aaron, Billy, Spada, Jason Martin, Leonard Hilliard, B-Mac, Nathan and many more for a tour of the first half of the Thunder Road Marathon course. I had forgotten just how hilly the first part was. Last year I must have blacked out or purposely forgotten the tough parts of the race. The opening 13 miles are definitely rolling with no one section being particularly tough, it's just that very little is flat. It was a great group to run with and the conversations were great. The pace began to pick up around 9 and we held a solid clip until the very end.
Once back at the Dowd I passed out a bunch of Nuun water bottles and some tablets to share. I had a box of 50 bottles in my car that has slowly whittled down to friends and accounts. Today was the day that I gave away the last bottle. Yes! Now I just have to get rid of the other 50 bottle box in my storage unit. Yikes. Who out there likes Nuun?
I stood around for about 5 minutes and then made the decision to hurry over to McAlpine. There was another group to run with...

The Captain and the Cheerleader
Time: 89:07
Distance: ~14 miles
It was a bit brisk out there this morning. Maybe it was crisp. Either way I was glad to have on my Craft thermal running tights with brushed polyester on the inside. Is there a difference between "crisp" and "brisk?" A former teammate of my used to say they were the same thing except "brisk" had a bit of wind thrown in.
I met up with Paul Mainwaring and Billy Shue this morning for a 12 mile long run cut down. The Captain and the cheerleader (Billy challenged me to guess which sport he competed in while in college, I lost) jogged over to meet me at Old Bell at 8:00 am. We weren't even the first people there despite the 22 degree temps. Impressive Charlotte!
We took the first 4 miles easy and talked about upcoming races and recent training. The middle 4 miles got the pace moving and we closed things out with an honest sub-6 minute pace effort for the final 4 miles. I didn't feel fantastic on this run because I was up late and didn't sleep too well, but I'm glad to have people to run with.
After chatting in the parking lot for a few minutes post-run, Billy and Paul ran off and I sneaked in 2 extra miles to keep warm before Meagan arrived. Our complicated effort that you can read about in her post meant that I had to hurry home and cook up some apple-cinnamon pancakes. I enjoyed all aspects of this morning's run, even the cold weather.
