I ran with Meagan after work and we ran a long modified loop around Beverly. I was a little tired from the run this morning and the fact that I'm a bit sick didn't help my cause. The pace was pretty easy for the first 10km of the run and then I started to pick things up just a bit. Meagan hasn't been sounding too great on easy runs lately which is a bit concerning. As a result, I've been holding back a bit on sections to keep from dropping her in one light move to a quicker pace.

Beverly Lunch Loop
Time: 48:34
Distance: 10.01 km
Pace: 4:51/km
Map
A group of me, Meagan, the Karhu CEO and Craft GM headed out for a lunch loop around Beverly. The pace was very much in control for the first 8km and then picked up ever so slightly once we dropped them off back at the office. Meagan and I added on to boost the weekly totals a bit. I think we were both happy to be finished with our weekly runs by 1 PM and would have the rest of the afternoon to relax. We could even partake in the Friday afternoon beer/wine office session that may or may not occur at the Karhu North America offices.

Evening Beverly Double
Time: 41:44
Distance: 10.02 km
Pace: 4:10/km
Map
I headed out from the office after work looking to put in a nice double run around Beverly. I was feeling pretty good early on, but never forced the pace down. The weather is finally starting to look a little like spring. There is still a definite chill in the air, but when the sun is out it feels almost like t-shirt and shorts weather.

Lunch Time Run in Beverly
Time: 44:17
Distance: 10.05 km
Pace: 4:24/km
Map
It was cold when Meagan and I got up this morning which was a little unexpected. We opted to not start off the week with a sub-20 degree run and drank a fair amount of coffee instead. Around lunch time we headed out the door and fit in a familiar loop in Beverly. It wasn't a whole lot warmer, but better than what it could have been.

Track Workout 300m/100m
Time: 55:40
Distance: 12.57 km
W/u: 19:39 for 4.01 km
W/o: 16 x 300m (100m jog). 4 in 60, 4 in 59, 4 in 58, 4 in 57 target.
C/d: 11:02 for 2.16 km
After work Meagan and I got suited up and headed out for a light Friday evening track workout. The workout was intended to be light and have Meagan work on her pacing. I really want her to start knowing what 5:20 feels like. The rest was supposed to be in the 35 second range, or the faster the better.
Splits:
There are a couple splits in there that appear fast because my watch didn't respond when I hit the button. Overall, the workout went well for us. I felt solid leading out the intervals and ran the last one at a blistering 52.8! The time for 16 laps ended up being an average of about 6:15/mile pace.

Distance: 5.54 km

Meagan and I ran from the office today at lunch for just over 5 km. We didn't run this morning for some reason and will be on the track tonight for a light evening workout.

Karhu & Craft Lunch Crew
Time: 40:23
Distance: ~8.50 km
I ran today with the office crew consisting of Meagan, Eric and Frisbee. We held a steady pace running around Beverly and I even opted to take a crack at the Dane Beach Challenge. It's a new mid-run challenge I've created with the speed trap along Dane Beach. The digital reader picks up any movement including walkers and runners. My record is 18 MPH, but my goal is to soon hit 20 MPH. Hopefully with some warmer weather and additional speed workouts I'll be able to hit the mark soon.

Track Tempo
Time: 87:05
Distance: 21.43
W/u: 25:37 for 5.43 km
W/o: Paced Meagan for 6 x mile, ran continuous for extra 3km during her rest
C/d: 18:06 for 3.40 km
Meagan's workout tonight was 6 x mile on the Beverly HS track. Her target splits were: 5:40, 5:36, 5:33, 5:30, 5:28, 5:24 all with 2:00 recovery. I figured that in those two minutes I could keep running and get in 600m. I didn't know how long I could keep up the tempo, but it would allow both of us to maximize our time on the track.
I ended up being able to last the entire workout and just ran continues for a little over 12km in 43:21. The windy track forced me to have Meagan take a few turns leading the intervals. I was also slowing on the 600m "rest" sections and came through a few ticks over 2:00 which gave Meagan a little extra rest.
She ran strong and you can see all the mile splits were pretty much right on target.

Work Group Run
Time: 42:49
Distance: 8.60 km
Pace: 4:59/km
Map
A small group from the office headed out a jog around Beverly. I think we were all grateful to be running outside after being cooped up indoors for the past few days. I ended up doing one hard stride trying to crack the 20 mph barrier along Dane Beach. I was obstructed by a couple cars and the reading wasn't accurate. Next time!

Office Run
Time: ~38 mins
Distance: ~8 km
Meagan and I ran this afternoon from the office in Beverly. I forgot my Garmin at home and was running blind (naked). The pace was really slow and easy. I am definitely coming down with something that could make this week very lackluster with my trip to Philly and the impending storm.

Snowy Run in Beverly
Time: 54:39
Distance: 13.03 km
Pace: 4:12/km
Map
I dropped Meagan off at the airport early this morning as she's headed out to Salt Lake City for Outdoor Retailer. I drove back to our offices in Beverly and ran an easy 13 km around the snowy streets with a pair of trail shoes. I remember feeling really cold at points of the run, but ended up getting into a rhythm despite my face having a difficult time adjusting.

After Work Double
Time: 48:15
Distance: 10.01 km
Pace: 4:49/km
Map
Nothing too impressive to report for tonight's run with Meagan after work. We avoided getting hit by any cars returning home from work which is always a win. I was hoping to feel a little more recovered by this evening, but my quads are still somewhat tender. I think the increased pace and distance from Saturday took a little more out of me than I originally thought.

18 MPH & Syrup
Time: 38:25
Distance: 8.38 km
Pace: 4:35/km
Map
A crew of Karhu North America employees headed out the door for a run at lunch. It was Meagan, Chris who works in customer service and Scott who handles our shipping/warehouse logistics and me. We ran a standard 6-8 km loop that runs around town and just briefly along Dane Beach. To keep the summer traffic in check, there is a speed monitor placed on one of the light poles.
On runs I have noticed it picks up my 8-9 MPH average pace when I'm on the far side of the street. I bet the group as we approached if I could hit 15 MPH. I don't think anyone in the group thought it were possible except me. Rule number one is don't make a bet you can't win. I was confident at being able to flash 15+ MPH on the sign. Plus there is a slight downhill which almost makes it an unfair challenge to make.
To the group's surprised, the sign flashed "18."
If that weren't a big enough victory on the day, a couple of minutes later I spotted a fresh bottle of Stop&Shop syrup on the ground. A full unopened bottle of genuine high fructose corn syrup syrup! My day couldn't get any better. A big batch of flapjacks is certainly in order this weekend.
I ran a few strides after the run to celebrate my speed and syrup.

Double Bride Loop
Time: 91:18
Distance: 20.35 km
Pace: 4:29/km

Meagan returned home from her trip out west and I took her on a new loop I recently made. She had the pleasure of testing out some new Karhu shoes and told me all about her adventure. Good run from what I can remember.

New 20k Loop
Time: 85:24
Distance: 20.54 km
Pace: 4:10/km
Map
I went out in search of a new loop from the condo and came up with nice 20k mostly in Beverly. The exploration wasn't too zealous as I ran streets near and around our offices. However, the loop to the office and afterwards was a nice way to start and finish. I'm not sure how feasible the loop will be in winter because it goes across a couple of bridges that could be particularly cold, but it will be good for the remainder of the summer and fall. I wasn't try to run hard but the pace just gradually picked up until the end.

Foiled by Track Fans
Time: 82:17
Distance: 17.41km
W/u #1: 14:58 for 2.86km
W/u #2: 67:19 for 14.55km
Meagan had a big workout on tap this afternoon that we planned to do at the Beverly High School track near our offices. We warmed up around the little pond in the Cummings Center and were about to cross the street to the track when I saw a track meet was being contested. Clearly we would not be able to get on the track during the meet so we made the decision to grab our bags and hurry back to Marblehead.
It was a slow drive home to Marblehead as it seemed we hit every red light between the office and home. We dropped our bags and then headed off on the quickest route to the track. It was almost comical when we showed up to find the boys high school mile about to start signaling that we would not be able to use the track at all. We opted to just go on a run along the gravel path through town and make the workout happen tomorrow. I tried to not be too upset with kids competing at the sport that has provided me with so much.

Day Two
Time: 23:23
Distance: 4.99km
Pace: 4:41/km
Map
I didn't I run .01 farther!? This was my second consecutive streak of running which puts me at 99,211,458 on the list of US citizens tracking their consecutive days of running. In 20 years maybe I could be in the top 100. The thing is, I don't care about the streak. I want to run fast. Running fast means pushing the envelope and experiencing high levels of discomfort. However, I often confuse pain and injury with discomfort.
Today I jogged from our offices over to a field behind a school, but soon left because it was filled with goose shit. It was everywhere! I didn't feel like driving home with shitty shoes, so I opted to run loops around the Beverly High School track. The facility just got a nice upgrade with a field turf grass infield. The track surface is firm but mostly intact. It will make a nice venue for spring/summer workouts.
My hamstring today felt a little better. It's still tight and restrictive, but I'm able to jog with less discomfort than last week. What's strange is that I can do high knees or butt kicks with absolutely no pain. But, if I extend my leg to engage my upper hamstring, I'm immediately reminded of why I can't resume training. My normal stride is a little hampered just when I'm about to plant my right leg. I'm no physio, but that's when your upper hamstring/glute is activated which I can feel.
I'll be getting ART tomorrow to further loosen up my tight leg. I'm taking this one day at a time...

Schenker to the Front
Time: 38:20
Distance: 7.11 km
Pace: 5:23/km
Map
This afternoon Meagan, the Craft/Karhu GM (@CraftSportsGM) and I left the office for a little jog around the lovely town of Beverly, MA. It's a busy time of the year as people on the Craft side of the business are making the official "buy" for next year. That means if you want to be rocking the coolest baselayers, tights and jackets next fall, then the "buy" must be forecast according. Tension, tension...
We suited up in our running costumes and headed out the door in mild February conditions. I, unfortunately, could not enjoy the run as my hamstring is absolutely killing me. I have a decent range of motion on my right side, but every pull through hurts while weight bearing. The discomfort is high up near the insertion point to my butt (not what you're thinking). I will be getting treatment tomorrow, but I now recognize that this is a little more serious than I thought.
If you're on the Twitter, please follow Eric (linked above) because it's pathetic how few followers he has! (I hope he reads this).
