It was an early awakening from Ozzie and Becky's pad this morning for a run through Central Park. The plan was to meet up with Nick Neely from his Upper West Side apartment at 6:45 AM. There was a comical (at least to me) exchange of text last night that went a little like this:
NN: You in town tomorrow morning? We could meet for a run.
JK: Yea, I'm here. Trying to plan out my schedule for work. I think that sounds nice.
NN: Okay my day is flexible, just let me know. Sorry to miss out on tonight. That said, I ain't much of an adorning runner... Nothings changed.
NN: Fuck.
NN: A morning runner.
I thought adorning runner was quite poetic which fits Nick Neely perfectly as he is currently enrolled in two post graduate writing programs. One is at Hunter College and the other is at Columbia University. Yes, you read that correctly. Two writing programs at the same time at two respectable universities. Fortunately for Neely, he lives in fantasy-land and is able to do stuff that makes us all jealous.
Oz and I showed up a few minutes late, but Neely was surprisingly out the door and awaiting our arrival. He's still wicked tall and has a stride that gobbles up ground. We dropped off Oz near his apartment and then the two of us continued around the park finding more kilometers. It was great catching up with my former Brown teammate and fellow Nor Cal brother. We'll definitely be catching some more runs together if I'm going to be in NYC more frequently and my hope is that he starts training seriously again.

Double Run
Time: 40:54
Distance: 6 miles
It was a decent night out and I was wanting to get back out on the road. I came home from class and put the running shoes on and headed out the door. The wind was pretty cold out of the west which made the first half slow. I ran past Irving MS, out Boyd, turned left at Pickard and came back Brooks. Overall, I am pleased with the days training. The legs feel a bit more rested.
Also competing over the weekend was former Brown University runner and fellow Northern Californian, "Ridiculous" Nicholas Neely. He made his marathon debut at the AT&T Austin Marathon. His finishing time of 2:24 earned him a sixth place finish. Read more about the race and the event here on Oburn's blog. He has some pretty sweet pics of Neely clipping along.

Long Run on Dead Presidents
Time: 110:50
Distance: 17 miles
I met Scotty D. for a run this morning around Norman. We had a little mix up at the start of the rut but were able to work things out. I took him on what is now being called Dead Presidents for the majority of our run. Once we got back onto Pickard the route deviated and headed across Lindsey so that more time could be added on. I felt pretty good out there. Tom wanted me to run the first 5-6 miles easy and then gradually pick up the pace. I tried to do that as much as possible while still running with a friend. The pace didn't get as swift as it would have if I were alone, but I will take company on a run any day. Scotty D. dropped me off back at Campus Lodge before swinging around to his place. He was trying to get in a good 20 miles.
Former teammate "Ridiculous" Nicholas Neely competed in the P.F. Chang's Rock 'N Roll Arizona Marathon & 1/2 Marathon today. Isn't that a mouthful of a name. Kind of like a mouthful of General Tsao's chicken. Nick competed well in his first 13.1 mile race finishing in 3rd place with a time of 1:10:28. Congrats to him. Results can be found here.
