BREAKING NEWS!!!!

There is a big race planned for Sunday, May 16th in the great state of Massachusetts. You can read all about it on Boring Stories of Glory Days.

The reason for the friendly competition between Mike Decoste (Brown class of '04) and Meagan Nedlo's 5k time from The Penn Relays (16:44), is for status in the "Hitters" category of my blog (see right column). If Mr. Decoste succeeds, Jeff Gaudette's "Takin' Names" will be relegated to the bottom leagues of "Slackers/Injured Reserve." In fact, Takin' Names should be demoted for lack of posting in the past five months. The action is heating up as Eamonn O'Connor's "Oi Da Wee Man Has a Blog" might be bumped up along with a successful run by Mr. Decoste. It's the least I could do.

Game on. The wagers begin now.

If Mike runs faster than 16:44 he will be a "hitter" and bring Da Wee Man (midget horse enthusiast) along with him.

DeCoste in Durham

Time: 32:16
Distance: 4.16 miles
Pace: 7:45
Map

I got little sleep last night as DeCoste had to be in front of the Fuqua building by 8:45 am and I had to be on a call at 9:00 am. We hit the roads for a short jog before heading to Duke's campus. It wasn't the best training site as we were fighting for room on the road with commuters. We managed to fit in a little over 30 minutes and found just over 4 miles. My achilles felt fine this morning during the run.

Latest and Greatest

Time: Meh
Distance: Trial of miles...

My recent running has taken a turn for the better as I have been able to put in 30-45 minutes of easy mileage for the past week. I have been incorporating more lower ab work to my routine in hopes that it will strengthen my iliopsoas. I had been reading a lot more about hip injuries and learned about this iliopsoas business rather late in my recovery phase. There is a lot of information on the Internet about hip injuries but none of it is too helpful. From what I can surmise is that there is so much going on in there that any one little element can cause pain. My hip pain has become more localized and I know believe I have iliopsoas tendinitis (aka snapping hip syndrome, aka dancer's hip syndrome).

Now that I am running a touch more I will begin to start blogging more. Hopefully... I had to clear my watch that contained some runs with Meagan that last time she was in town. Since, that was weeks ago it just goes to show how poor my running has become.

On another note, Mike DeCoste '04 has started a training blog which can be found in the training blogs column of my page. I first met Mike on my recruiting trip to Brown the fall of my senior year of high school. He was one of my hosts for that weekend and is largely responsible for me attending Brown. Not really, but we'll let him think that. Actually, Eamonn O'Connor is the reason I went to Brown, mainly b/c I couldn't understand a word he said all weekend. I also was able to spend a few days out in Eugene the summer after my senior year with DeCoste and a crew of other Brown dudes (not skintone). We had a great time which is why a few summers later a group of guys returned to Tracktown, USA. That certainly is a Boring Story of Glory Days.

What I've Been Doing...

...not a whole lot. I'm going to roughly fill in my runs for the last few weeks in a single post.

Fri. 5/30 - 57:14
Thurs. 5/29 - 34:11
Thurs. 5/29 - 33:40
Weds. 5/28 - 40:01 (ran a mini 5k tempo with Carrot Top in 18:32)
Weds. 5/28 - 28:08
Tues. 5/27 - 34:29
Sat. 5/24 - 22:00 to the track. Convinced Mike DeCoste it would be a great idea to run a mile in sub 5:00. Owen and I took pacing duties and led off with a 75 second quarter. Down the back stretch Coste wanted to go fast so we did. The man showed some heart and clicked off a 4:47 mile in trainers. Afterwards Owen, Hamel and I paced Craigga to a 67.7 Freeman. Yup, we still got it.
Fri. 5/23 - 35:40 to the Brown Stadium to watch Oz and Sarro run a tune up workout for Regionals. Did some light jogging on the infield with Owen.
Thurs. 5/22 - Shakeout run in the morning with Meagan. Beer mile in the evening. See post below.
Weds. 5/21 - 45:01 in the streets near Brown and down by the Blvd in Providence. Ran with Meagan up to campus and then headed down Lloyd where we ran into Oz and SarBro. They joined us for the next few miles.
Tues. 5/20 - 28:16
Sat. 5/17 - 63:03. Wow that was a good run. Perhaps that was with Geoff Thurner and Jilane in the streets of Norman.
Fri. 5/16 - 88:22. Who am I? That's like 12 miles. Ran out at Lake Draper with Jilane and Thurner. Went to the end of the dirt trail and back.
