Easy Palm Springs Double

Time: 32:23
Distance: 7.01 km
Pace: 4:37/km
Map

I got out the door with Meagan for a double run before dinner. We ran the same loop as a couple of days ago at an easy pace. My legs were feeling good and I started toying with the idea of working out tomorrow. I might was well take advantage of the warm conditions while here. After the run I did a few long strides to burn off some extra energy.

Conor Holt's Departure

Time: 59:20
Distance: 8.04 miles
Pace: 7:23
Map

Meagan and I left the house just before 8:00 am to run down to the parking lot at Timberdell and Jenkins. We were meeting up with Camille, Conor and Scotty for a jog around town. Camille and Conor head back to West Lafayette, Indiana this morning after a brief return to Nompton. Once we grouped up the girls went in one direction and the guys another. We don't like to mix and match much here in the bible belt.

We started out with a spin around a 3 mile loop that Conor maintains he would do all of his long runs on. During one session he says he ran 8 loops of the thing. It's a decent, soft, not too scenic loop near campus. I could maybe run 2, possibly 3 before I would have to venture elsewhere. Eight loops is a bit much. He also claims former Norman resident and current Nike employee, Tom Redding, once ran 9 loops. That's 27 miles on the same 3 mile course!

Our run for the most part was pleasant. The legs weren't too beat up from the 400s yesterday. Conor made mention of a similar workout one of his athletes did this year. Neither Scotty nor I could understand the Irish gibberish that was coming out of his mouth (think Eamonn O'Connor or Enda Johnson), but he was clearly excited about the amount of work. Anyway, point being is that my workout was similar to the Kiwi's workout and he ran ~29:50 for 10k a few weeks later. I guess that's encouraging news.

I finished up the run on Main St., said our farewells and proceeded upstairs.

Terribly Humid

Time: 46:27
Distance: 6.47 miles
Pace: 7:10
Map

The weather was not kind to us this morning. At 7:30 am I'd guess the heat index was around 88 degrees. Simply awful. Luckily, I only had to run 6 miles with Scotty. We tried out a slightly different loop taking us farther west. The legs were a little sluggish early on but I finished the run feeling good.

Long Campus Loop

Time: 35:10
Distance: 5 miles

Got out there this morning for a short run through campus. Nothing to report. My right hip is feeling a bit better now that I'm taking more vitamin "I." It still is not where I would like it to be but stretching has helped only a little bit. I've been self massaging more frequently and when it's really sore I can find exactly where the tight spot is.

Long Lloyd Noble

Time: 57:51
Distance: 8.5 miles

The running was slow tonight because it was savagely windy and the ground was soggy. The section of the run down by Lloyd Noble Center wasn't the best. The trail that you cut over on was quite muddy and slippery. I think the split along Pickard St. was about 6:30 into the wind. The weather and the legs weren't going to make it a great run.

Morning Run

Time: 47:38
Distance: 7 miles

Ran in the morning on the route that took me in to campus, turned left on Pickard, left on Imhoff and back Jenkins. Didn't get bitten by a dog today, though I did run by the notorious house. It was a pretty cold morning around 20 degrees with little to no wind. I split 7:50 for 1.25 miles on Pickard and over to Chautauqua. I meant to stop the clock at Imhoff but forgot when I was trying to tally how many hours I had worked in the this week. Around the softball stadium I saw Kristi out for a jog and earlier spotted another younger girl who was wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Crazy. She didn't even have gloves or a hat. Either really hardcore or just plain stupid.

Dead Presidents

Time: 67:20
Distance: 10 miles

Got in the morning for a nice easy run. Wind was coming out of the north per usual. It was a frigid 23 degrees. I feel lame about only mentioning the weather, but that is all you can think about when you're constantly running into a 10+ mph breeze. The legs felt solid this morning. Didn't need to push the pace though. On a good note I didn't get eaten by a dog. The left thigh looks much better today than it did yesterday. Only a flesh wound right?

Ouch!

Time: 36:00
Distance: 5 miles

Set out on Long Campus Loop to put in a little morning jog. We are
suppose to be hit with a snow storm sometime today. I didnt feel like
working out this morning and thought it would be better to do inside
after work. The run was going well. A little cold. A little windy.

As I was coming back on Brooks there were two dogs sitting on a porch.
I briefly glanced to my left to check out what they were doing. Well,
my glare must have really pissed the big dog off because he
immediately jumped up and started after me. I've had dogs chase me
before and usually they stop after I have run out of their territory.
This one didn't. I'm certain that I've seen this guy before and
previously he has given me no problems. But today he chased me really
close and wasn't letting up. As he was running and barking just off my
left hip, I turned to see how serious he was acting. Then he lunged
and bit my left outer leg. See photo. Good stuff right? I went back
and woke up the dog's owner. The man was surprised that the dog was
even out and that he has never done this before. Right. Anyway, the
owner said that he was fully vacinated and then apologized. I'm hoping
I don't start foaming at the mouth today.

Long Lloyd Noble

Time: 56:36
Distance: 8.5 miles

Same run as Monday morning. Weather was much better. Still a little cold, but not nearly as windy. I got a chance to chat with Scotty D. about his performance at the Little Rock Half Marathon over the weekend. He didn't have the greatest run due to a respiratory infection of some kind. Check out the recap of the race on his blogpost.

I think I split a 6:20 mile running north on Pickard. Legs were feeling a little sluggish and sore at the start of the run but by the time I was near the Lloyd Noble Center, they were feeling better.

Dead Presidents

Time: 68:42
Distance: 10 miles

Ran on the named loop a little later in the day than normal. Just went easy to allow my legs to recover. I have a pretty solid workout tomorrow and need to save energy for it.

Lloyd Noble Loop

Time: 55+
Distance: 8+ miles

The Timex watch that Owen and I love to hate failed me once again. I noticed that the watch failed to start at the corner of Classen and Brooks. I usually get to that mark between 9:00 to 9:20. I finished the run in 48:38 that goes by Scotty D's house and back Pickard where I split 6:13 for the mile. Legs felt decent as I gradually picked up the pace as the run went on.

This evening I have some 200s to run on the track under the lights just to build some speed.

Long Campus Loop

Time: 35:34
Distance: 5 miles

Put some time on my feet in the morning. I am hoping to get in a good workout tonight under the lights. In order to feel right during the day I got out the door and ran an easy 5 miles. Legs felt good, just hope they do tonight.

Morning Run

Time: 60:05
Distance: 9+ miles

Ran from the Lodge on a loop that started out on the Lloyd Noble Loop, but when I got to Chautauqua I headed in towards Scotty D's house. I made my way over to Pickard and split a mile of 6:17 before heading home on Brooks. I wanted to get in about an hour so I looped around the parking lot until my time was up. Felt fairly good. It wasn't too bad this morning. I got out there without a jacket, just a long sleeve and some gloves.

Dead Presidents

Time: 65:13
Distance: 10 miles

Felt pretty good after a day off yesterday. Got out there and ran the standard loop that I have come to enjoy. Body isn't achy anymore and I think I'm good to go for a workout tomorrow. Hopefully, the weather will be decent.

In other running news, several former Brown University athletes competed over the weekend. Owen Washburn, Jeff Gaudette and Patrick Tarpy raced in sunny San Diego, CA at the USATF XC Champs. You can find more about the race in Oburn's blog post. The results can be found here at the USATF site.

Morning Run

Time: 45:02
Distance: 6.5 miles

Ran in the morning before heading off to work. I looped down to campus and turned right on Pickard. I just went out and back b/c it was terribly windy and I was up late. I was just looking to put about 6 miles on my feet before starting the day off at work.

Track Tempo

Time: 78:04
Distance: 12 miles

W/u from the Lodge on the standard loop that goes through campus and ends at the track. Made sure to run a few extra laps on the track and got the time up to 25:02. Hustled inside to change the shoes and stretch a bit. The wind wasn't a factor but it was about 30 degrees. Tom wanted me doing a 2 x 2.5 mile tempo that cut the pace down.

Target: 2 x 2.5 mile tempo with 800 splits of 2:40, 2:35, 2:30, 2:25, 2:25
Actual: 2:35.94, 2:36.31, 2:30.06, 2:26.31, 2:25.08 (5 mins rest to jog 800 meters)
2:36.87, 2:33.88, 2:31.00, 2:28.66, 2:24.13 for 30:08 total.

Felt pretty good. I was running with long tights over half-tights which made my stride a little less fluid. Either way it was a solid amount of work. I was able to stay relaxed through 1.5 miles and then had to concentrate for the next mile of each 2.5 mile set.

C/d back to the Lodge in 22:54.

Sutton Woods

Time: 80:14
Distance: 12 miles

I ventured out to Sutton Woods for the first time this year. A fellow friend and customer at the store, Ken Hardwick, has been able to remove most of the debris that came down in the ice storm. I was surprised with how well the 1.5 mile trail was this cold and windy morning. There was a solid breeze coming out of the north which made getting to Sutton a chore, but was quite nice on the way home. Legs felt good for the most part. I ended up running three full loops before heading back and the middle one was around 9:30.

Double Run

Time: 30:15
Distance: 4 miles

Went on Campus Loop. Just wanted to put some time on my feet after my evening class. Nothing much to report because, frankly, I don't really remember the run. However, the watch stored the data, so I must have run.

Morning Run

Time: 30:02
Distance: 4 miles

Ran Campus Loop nice and easy. I got a pretty good workout planned for under the lights tonight after my class. I think the wind is
going to die down and I'll get out there for some quick 400s.

Double Run

Time: Watch malfunction
Distance: 7 miles

After my one hour thesis/project class I got out the door to run in the dark. I headed out and wasn't sure how long or far to go. I opted to turn right on Timberdell and go past the law school before heading south on Chautauqua. I proceeded to head over to Pickard and ran back through campus. My watch started when I thought I was taking a mile split on Pickard which I hit in 6:30. I would guess the run was somewhere around 50 minutes.
