#5 OU vs. #2 Texas Tech

Time: ???
Distance: ~2 miles

Tonight Scotty and I packed up a couple backpacks and ran to campus just before kickoff of the big game. Our destination was Scotty Hollingsworth's tailgate along Lindsey. Running during football games is a great time with all the energy and excitement that goes along with the Sooner's 61-2 home record since Bob Stoops has been coach. It wasn't as cold as I thought it was going to be on the jog over and I couldn't figure out why everybody was bundled up sitting around the television. Soon after standing around in the shorty's I became frozen and clothing didn't seem to help my cause for gaining warmth. Luckily the tailgate next to Holly's had an over sized propane space heater gizmo that worked wonders.

At halftime Dizzle and I peaced out and headed to Kristi's for the remainder of the game but not before I made a dude puke. I was walking over to the bathrooms (read: port-o-potty) and this dude was standing awkwardly holding 2 beers (read: Keystone Lights). He yelled that he had a beer for me if I could just pick the one up off the ground that he was staring at. I picked it up and handed it to him, but he insisted that it was for me. I obliged and asked him if he wanted to "icki" (I'm not sure how to spell the Japanese word for chug) the drink. He begrudgingly agreed, but first we had to get to know one another. Our conversation went something like this...

Dude: Where you from?
Me: I'm from California.
Dude: No shit.
Me: Yea. Santa Rosa.
Dude: I'm from Talequah. My name is Aaron.
Me: I'm Jordan. Nice to meet you Aaron. We gonna drink this? I'm freezing (and have to pee).
Dude: Yea.
Me: Okay. You ready? (I start blowing the foam off the top of the beer and flick off the dirt).
Dude:
Wait. Are you a runner?
Me: Yea. Why?
Dude: You look like a runner.
Me: Thanks. You ready?
Dude: Yea. Ok let's do this.

At this point we start drinking and when I'm 3/4 of the way finished a lady walks out of the stall. She looks at me and sees that I'm in the middle of an intense contest with my new overalled redneck buddy from Talequah, but that doesn't stop her from asking...

Lady: Hey, are you a runner?
Me: (Who are these people? And why do they care that I run. Nobody else does). Yea I run a bit.
Lady: That's cool. I run too. Do you run marathons?
Me: I'm hoping to start soon.
Lady: I run marathons. Well, actually I've done a couple half marathons blah blah blah.

Meanwhile homeboy with the overalls is puking his brains out next to the bathroom. I'm trying to pay him no mind but he's really getting into it. The lady is half concerned about him but more interested in talking about running. I finish up the conversation as quickly as possible and head off to the bathroom but not before thanking Aaron for the beer. Thanks buddy, I'll catch you next time.

Oh yea. The Sooners manhandled the Red Raiders 65-21! So much for the game of the century.

ESPN Game Day: OU vs. Texas Tech

Time: 72:00
Distance: 9 miles

I ran from the Lodge in to campus this morning to check out ESPN Game Day. It was a good deal. On my first trip through campus there were about 400 students packed onto the infield of the track waiting for the show to start. On my second trip back, just before heading home, the crowd had grown by a few hundred and the stereo was blasting classic dance jams. Just think of those 90s jams that they used infomercials to advertise. Remember?

A poor photo of the ESPN and OU crews.

The wind out of the south sucked running down Jenkins, but other than that the run was pretty boring. I stopped at one point to email Team MJ about the crowd and my run. I was looking for something to do other than run.

Running to Work

Time: 42:35
Distance: 6.25 miles

I went to bed later than I had planned last night because I was messing around with my phone and knew that I was going to run to work in the morning with it. After getting everything worked out for the morning I went to bed but decided to watch a stand-up routine by Richard Pryor. Comedy Central apparently goes "R" rated after midnight and the jokes were unedited. The video isn't of the routine I watched, but it's still good.

In the morning I grabbed my phone, headphones and put some money in my water bottle and ran to work. The pace was nice and easy as I ran through campus while people were setting up their campers, rv's, barbecues and generators for the game this afternoon. The Sooners lost a helluva game to the Longhorns last weekend and they look to rebound this afternoon against the Jayhawks from Kansas. The run to the store was fine as I took the same route I've been using during the night runs home from work. It's a familiar route that isn't too busy with cars.

Craig managed to score tickets to the game via Nike and he will be leaving a touch earlier than usual but the store was quiet during most of the game. There was a period of time when Craig was gone and Gus was driving down from Edmond when I was working the floor solo when a few customers came in. It was all under control until Gus walked in with a costume that makes my jorts look like the next fashion trend. For a period of time he was even wearing a radio/headphone combo because the Cowboys game wasn't on tv and he had to listen to the game on the radio. It was quite the look and this picture doesn't do the costume justice, not to mention that Gustavo was speaking 30 decibles louder than usual because of those damn headphones.

Sweet Shoes Homer!

It's Game Day!

Time: 52:30
Distance: 7.80 miles
Pace: 6:44

I woke up actually excited to run because today is game day and running through campus on a morning like this is fun. I ran in towards campus, as I normally do along Brooks, and was surprised to see that there were still parking spots available. The Soonermobile bus thing that would be an embarrassment to drive if you weren't from Oklahoma or a huge OU fan was stationed in its standard location near the train tracks. I wanted to bring my phone to snap some photos beforehand but forgot just as I ran out the door. Words will not do justice to the mural/airbrushed work on the back portion of the bus depicting former OU coach and legendary Norman, OK resident Barry Switzer barking orders from the sideline. As if that couldn't be outdone, right beside Barry is the coach Bob Stoops looking rather like a bulldog.

The rest of run was rather uneventful as I continued down Jenkins and cut across near C.O.R.C.S. to Chautauqua ran back near the OU law school and back in through campus and home. Early afternoon games provide for better morning runs through campus because the barbecue smokers are already going versus today when they were just being set up for a 6 pm kick off. The #2 ranked Sooners play some joke of a school down near Dallas and if they win they will most likely be ranked #1 since the USC Trojans got smoked by a bunch of pussies...I mean Beavers.
