Met Scotty D near Reeves Park along Jenkins for a little workout to break up the monotony of distance runs. He has a couple loops that he uses in the area when a tempo run is on the schedule. I warmed up 25:14 from the Lodge to Reeves, stretched ever so lightly, did a couple easy strides and got to work. See the maps for the loops we used (I'm going to have to talk to Dizzle about them being a touch short).
Target: 4 mile tempo, followed by a 2 mile effort. Pace wasn't really a concern of ours.
Splits Loop #1: 2:44 (.5 mile), 5:30 (mile), 8:51 (1.5 mile), 13:51 (2.5 miles) for 21:47 at 4 miles.
2:00 min recovery
Splits Loop #2: 2:35, 2:33 (5:08) , 2:42, 2:38 (5:20) for 10:28 at 2 miles.
I felt pretty good the entire time and was comfortable at 5:30 pace. I hope in a few months that I'll be able to run 20 more miles at that same pace. It was another good weather day here in Norman. Weather.com informed me that it was "calm," a reading that is sparsely used. Having a workout partner is quite nice as I am slowly getting back into shape.
